Chief Justice presided over a review of reform in police investigation



ISLAMABAD: (APS)May 8, 2018- Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar chaired a meeting regarding improvements in police investigation process. The meeting was held today at Supreme Court Islamabad which was attended by retired as well as serving Inspectors General of police (IGPs) including Syed Masood Shah, Mr.Tariq Pervaiz, Mr.Shoukat Javed, Mr. Afzal Ali Shigri, Mr.Tariq Khosa, Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Mr.Shoaib Suddle, Mr.Fayaz Toru, Mr.Asad Jahangir and serving IGPs  Mr.Arif Nawaz, (IG-Punjab), Mr.A.D. Khawaja, (IGP-Sindh), Mr.Salahuddin (IGP-KPK), Mr Moazzam Jah (IGP-Baluchistan) and Mr Azam Taimori (IGP-ICT).
Talking on the issue of police investigation in criminal cases, the  Chief Justice of Pakistan told the participants that it has been observed that in majority of criminal cases, police investigation is improper and sub standard and drastic improvements are needed so that criminal cases in courts can withstand judicial scrutiny. His lordship asked them to deliberate upon the issue and suggest ways and means to bring improvements in the system. Chief Justice constituted a committee headed by Mr Afzal Ali Shigri, IGP (R) which will come up with terms of reference in 15 days.
